]]> http://www.andreahautala.com/blog/?feed=rss2&p=2183 0 Olympia’s January Snow and Ice Storm | Olympia Photographer http://www.andreahautala.com/blog/?p=2198 http://www.andreahautala.com/blog/?p=2198#comments Tue, 24 Jan 2012 23:32:09 +0000 admin http://www.andreahautala.com/blog/?p=2198 The first words that come to me are “wow”.  I mean really, was the storm we had anything like what you were expecting?  Not for me, that’s for sure.    At first it was like, “oh how nice, the snow is so pretty, and look, there’s so much of it, let’s go sledding and have some hot cocoa.” And then after the snow stopped and the freezing rain and all the ice hit, and we lost our electric and internet for several days, it didn’t seem so much like fun anymore.  The internet is my lifeline to my business, when I lose that I lose business and income and my livelihood.   Luckily it didn’t last long, and by the end of the weekend we were rocking and rolling like nothing ever happened.    I got to enjoy several movies with my daughter, got a lot of reading done, and caught up on all my editing (thank goodness for our generator!)  So it wasn’t at all a bad thing for me.   I even had a chance to take my macro lens out (although when a big tree branch snapped right next to our garage and it sounded like guns going off, I decided maybe indoors would be safer) and get a few shots of the snow and ice.

I want to hear your snow/ice storm adventures.  Did you make the best of it, muddle through or suffer without power and internet?   How did you prepare your meals?  Preparedness (and the lack of for 90% of Americans according to a recent poll) fascinates the heck out of me.  So come on…share your experience.
